Welcome to Fun and Silly days and holidays. Every Thursday I’ll post about fun days for the next week (Monday -Sunday) I’ll include the days history, celebrations and fun tidbits. We all need some fun and silly things to look forward to.
Fun and Silly Days and Holidays for the week of May 4th – 10th
May 4th – Star Wars Day was created by Star Wars fans to celebrate their love for the franchise. There is no wrong way to celebrate the day. Many fans celebrate with movie marathons, fun posts on social media, cooking themed food and building Lego sets. We’ll be celebrating by watching several of the movies and building a Lego set. May the forth be with you.
May 5th – Revenge of the Fifth is an unofficial holiday celebrated the day after Star Wars Day to celebrate the villains of the franchise.
May 5th – Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army’s May 5th, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Frequently Cinco de Mayo is confused with Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th. We celebrate Cinco de Mayo today with parades, mariachi music, dancing and traditional foods. This year my family will celebrate with traditional Mexican food.
May 9th – National Lost Sock Memorial Day is a day to say goodbye to all of the single socks, the ones where their mates have been lost to the unknown.
May 10th – Mother’s Day honors mothers and mother figures on the second Sunday of May. Mother’s Day became an official US holiday in 1914. Traditionally celebrated by taking moms out to lunch or dinner and giving of cards, flowers, or gifts. I don’t know what my husband and boys will be doing this year. I better go remind them that Mothers Day is coming up.
I hope you enjoyed this preview into next weeks fun and silly days and holidays.
